Storing and Managing Video Content
Third Light IMS is a powerful software product to manage a centralised media library. Using IMS you can store pictures, documents and videos in a single networked system, reducing costs and complexity and making shared access highly convenient. Videos are searchable, downloadable and auditable: in IMS, managing your media bank could not be simpler.
You can evaluate IMS free for 30 days. We also have a PDF brochure which you can download now.
Store Any Common Video Format
IMS video support is available with IMS Appliances, and is designed to support the most popular video types such as AVI, WMV and MPEG. As new standards emerge, additional codecs are added as part of our support package. Here is a list of file types IMS offers:
3G2, 3GP, AVI, DV, DV1394, FLAC, FLV, H261, H263, H264, M4V (MPEG4), MOV, MP4, MJ2, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4. High-definition support is included. IMS appliances can be tuned to use 4Mb/s preview video streams (normally 512kb/s on hosted sites).
Two distinct modes are available to provide in-browser preview videos, or snapshots of video content.
Streaming Video Previews
IMS offers streaming video previews in the browser, including audio. The video functionality includes play, pause and navigation with the clip. In addition to these functions, IMS can optionally limit the duration of the video, or add a customisable, visible watermark to prevent unauthorised use of the video clip.

Static Video Previews
IMS also supports video content in a unique interface where frames are extracted as still images, providing a grid of "at a glance" previews of the moving image content of files.
Compared to streaming the video in the browser, this approach saves time and bandwidth: it avoids a large download and also gives an immediate overview of the entire clip, especially useful where familiarity with the media is not guaranteed.
Charging For Video Downloads
Selling videos through IMS behaves in the same way as selling licenses to use pictures. Your users simply choose the licence that meets their requirements, make a payment and then download the file.
The static video previews are especially e-commerce friendly, since the video itself need not be displayed in a cut-down or watermarked version prior to purchase, but the buyer can still easily judge the materials within the video prior to placing an order. Documentation...
