Our video asset management system stores your videos and produces previews (also known as proxies) for the video content. This makes video content easily navigable and quick to browse.
When it comes to downloading the original content, the files can be delivered in two ways: either a conventional download of the full source, or by using the embedded player (similar to that used by YouTube).
Third Light IMS provides the hosting for the video content, relieving other servers and allowing video to be used more widely.
Streaming video previews
Our video asset management system offers streaming video previews in the browser, including audio. The video functionality includes play, pause and navigation with the clip. In addition to these functions, Third Light IMS can optionally limit the duration of the video, or add a customisable, visible watermark to prevent unauthorised use of the video clip. When a video file is published from IMS, the option to publish it as an embedded player is provided alongside the option of publishing the much larger, full resolution source file.
Video frame extraction
Our video asset management software includes a time-saving interface where frames are extracted at regular intervals to give a grid of still images, offering a clear sense of the video's content.
Compared to streaming the video in the browser, this approach saves time and bandwidth: it avoids a large download and also gives an immediate overview of the entire clip, especially useful where familiarity with the media is not guaranteed.
e-Commerce for video content
Our video asset management system includes tools to sell video downloads through an e-commerce checkout. Your users simply choose the licence that meets their requirements, make a payment and then download the file.
Video preview streams and video snapshot frames can be watermarked or limited in duration to protect the original media.
The static video previews are especially e-commerce friendly, since the video itself need not be displayed in a cut-down or watermarked version prior to purchase, but the buyer can still easily judge the materials within the video prior to placing an order.

Our video asset management software supports many codecs. This list is changing over time. The main formats we test against include: 3G2, 3GP, AVI, DV, DV1394, FLAC, FLV, H261, H263, H264, M4V (MPEG4), MOV, MP4, MJ2, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4. High-definition support is included. IMS appliances can be tuned to use 4Mb/s or higher preview video streams (normally 512kb/s on hosted sites).
