Third Light Ltd The Digital Asset Management Specialists [http://www.thirdlight.com/] http://www.thirdlight.com/ IMS Newsletter - February 2010 Dear all, Welcome to the February 2010 newsletter, our bi-monthly update on developments at Third Light and news about changes and improvements made to the IMS product. Please follow the instructions at the end of this email if you prefer not to receive our newsletters. Features mentioned below are free of charge, and will be released to subscription sites on 10th February 2010. Desktop Upload Tool Update for Microsoft Windows 7 Microsoft Windows 7 has been released and is widely installed on new PCs. The Third Light Desktop Upload Tool has been upgraded to implement support for several changes that were introduced in Windows 7. To download the latest version, please visit this page: [http://www.thirdlight.com/ims/features/uploader] http://www.thirdlight.com/ims/features/uploader Although only required for Windows 7, this update is recommended to all users as it also incorporates minor bug fixes and performance enhancements. The Desktop Upload Tool will indicate that a new version is available at startup. Searching History Notes (Appliances) (new) In the Reporting -> History Notes menu, IMS provides an interface to review all History Notes centrally. This interface has been updated to help keep track more closely of History Notes by offering additional filtering. - Filter by date range (start and end dates can be specified); - Filter by user; - Filter by album, with the option to include or exclude sub-albums; - Text search (searching by text allows for very fast location of specific words used in History Notes). The new filtering tools can be combined together for highly specific searches. Grouped Organisation of Metadata (new) In the last release of IMS, we introduced support for [http://documentation.thirdlight.com/html/appliance/index_CSH.html#CUSTOM_METADA TA_SEARCH] metadata panels and custom metadata fields, allowing IMS to accommodate almost any kind of metadata. On the Advanced Search form, metadata fields are now also grouped according to their panel. Each panel is used to divide the pulldown list into a new group. This change is also used in other places where a pull-down of metadata fields is used, such as when creating a Smart Folder. Grouping metadata into panels makes the search tools quicker and more orderly to use, and solves a problem where, previously, metadata fields were displayed in a long unsorted list. Prepare Emails Tool The Tools -> Prepare Emails feature of IMS is used to alert users to new albums, Smart Folders or Collections which have been allocated to their account. The following enhancements have been made to this tool: - The period of time for alerting about changes can now be adjusted, and is not restricted to 24 hours; - The process for selecting which users are to be alerted is now an interactive page, including an indication, where necessary, if a particular alert has already been sent (to avoid duplication); - The delivery of emails is managed in the background, avoiding long delays where large volumes of email are to be issued; - The email is now an HTML message (using the branding of your IMS site) and may be customised interactively before being sent.IMS will also now offer the opportunity to send an alert immediately after permissions for users or groups are changed. This is suitable for issuing emails about minor updates affecting a few users, and offers a more convenient way to access the Prepare Emails tool at the point of making changes. Minor Changes And Bug Fixes We have made a number of small adjustments to IMS as follows: - RAW file support: Support for RAW files has been updated. This is a maintenance update which updates IMS to handle a wider range of RAW files from newer cameras and improves the quality of colour profile interpretation. - Searching within Albums: When an album is being viewed, there is now a second search button in the header labeled, "Search This Album". This button filters the search to limit the results to those within the album currently being viewed. - Lightbox sharing: The default email template sent when a lightbox is shared has been reworded to improve clarity and offer more guidance on how to access the lightbox. - Download Requests and History Notes: When Download Requests are used in conjunction with History Notes, IMS will automatically prepare a History Note based on the Download Request, to save re-typing the same information twice. The History Note can be edited if required. - Logo alignment: When creating a new theme, IMS will now attempt to automatically centre and resize the logo to obtain the best overall appearance. - Extended Caption mode: In the user templates, the button to display the 'Extended Caption' has been redesigned to make the button a single toggle (on or off), and to use all of the space under the thumbnails to display the caption when the Extended Caption mode is selected. This avoids potentially confusing situations where the caption was being displayed twice. - e-Commerce Reports: Figures for gross profit and net profit are now included on the e-Commerce reports, to assist in consolidating order figures against the monthly statement. Internet Explorer 6 - End of Support Since our last newsletter, several high profile security problems have been associated with Internet Explorer 6, prompting Google to withdraw support for this browser version, and several national governments to discourage its use. In December 2009 we announced that IE6 would no longer be supported in IMS from 2010, and accordingly we have now removed IE6 from our testing routines. A small warning triangle will be displayed to administrators using IE 6.0 to indicate that the browser is not suitable for use with IMS. We recommend that the latest available version of Internet Explorer, Safari or Firefox is used with IMS to obtain the best performance, security and feature set in IMS. Feedback And Referrals We operate a referral scheme to reward any existing IMS customer who directs a new client to us. If you know of a business that would benefit from using IMS, please make an introduction - we'll provide a period of free use on your account if they buy one of our products. Every feature of IMS is based on your ideas and feedback. We keep a thorough record of all feedback and aim to implement the features that are most requested as part of our development plans.
