Video Guides to IMS v6.0
To help you make the most of the new features in IMS v6.0, we've prepared a series of videos to illustrate how our product solves common media management problems.
We are also on YouTube, so if you enjoy the video format and would like to subscribe to our channel, please head to thirdlight.tv for a complete list of our videos. We would also be very grateful for any feedback or requests for future videos, so please feel free to drop us a line!

Upgrading to V6Since our last newsletter, the big change for many Third Light users has been switching from IMS v5.3 to IMS v6.0. If you missed our newsletter in October, this included a walk-through guide to the upgrade process, and you can still go back and review this document today if you are now considering the free upgrade. You can upgrade whenever you're ready. IMS v5.3 will be retired on 1 January 2013, so there is plenty of time to test IMS v6.0 for 30 days before you make the switch. |

Smart FoldersFolders on a file server are too inflexible when digital content needs to be classified in multiple ways (or for multiple user groups). That model forces every file to be classified precisely once, or cloned and copied when it's needed elsewhere. This video explains how you can use metadata to provide a powerful alternative and solve these problems - without fragmenting your store - using Smart Folders. |

Managing MetadataAdding metadata that describes your content revolutionises the usefulness of your library, making it easier to find and re-use files. Metadata is at the heart of Third Light IMS, and it's something you can customise to suit your own needs when you are ready. This video explains how you can set metadata to improve the searchability and usefulness of your digital media. If you have only been using filenames or captions and keywords, this video is for you! |

Uploading files to Third Light IMSThe most often-cited benefit of digital asset management software is to centralise media in a single store. This has numerous benefits, such as improved record-keeping, reduced duplication and improved audit and communications that dramatically improve the usefulness of digital media. A key part of forming a central digital media library is to have convenient tools to upload files. This video shows you some of the easy ways you can upload content to IMS and maintain a process that prevents content from sprawling. |
New Features and Updates
Office documents: As part of our ongoing work to expand the useful range of formats that Intelligent Media Servers can manage, we have added Office document preview creation. This allows IMS to support Word, Excel and Powerpoint files with a convenient thubmnail preview of the content of your files.
File Content Search: We have added the ability for you to search within documents, too. In the Advanced Search, you can search within files using the 'File Content' search field, and you can also incorporate this option in general searches from the Configuration > Search Preferences page.
Adobe InDesign: The main content in any digital asset management system is visual media, so to support the increasing popularity of Adobe InDesign, Third Light IMS v6.0 now supports previews of InDesign INDD files.
e-Commerce Design Update: If you are using IMS for e-commerce, we hope you will like the new basket and shopping experience provided in IMS v6.0. As well as providing a new shopping cart status area at the top of the page, the basket includes more interactive features. The secure checkout, order receipts and administration pages for e-commerce orders have be redesigned extensively.
Telephone Support
We'd like to remind you that as soon as you are using IMS v6, you can also add telephone support to your maintenance package. Telephone support offers a faster way to receive assistance, and is specifically designed for our corporate clients. Here are some of the features of our new telephone support package:
- Call us for help and support using IMS v6.0 when you need
- You'll receive the personal help of a skilled and experienced technical support contact
- We'll help you establish a screen share session to work through your questions interactively
- We'll save you time by collecting configuration and diagnostic information directly with you
- ...All for a simple annual fee to support your nominated administrators.
If you would like to add telephone support to your account, please drop us a note at support@thirdlight.com. You can extend your existing support and maintenance package with the telephone support option at any time.
Feedback and Referrals
We operate a referral scheme to reward any Third Light customer who directs a new client to us. If you know of a business that would benefit from using IMS, please make an introduction - we'll provide a period of free use on your account if they buy one of our products.
Every feature of IMS is based on your ideas and feedback. We keep a thorough record of all feedback and aim to implement the features that are most requested as part of our development plans. Simply email features@thirdlight.com to send us your comments. For support questions, please use the Help menu support tool, as this allows us to track your queries and answer questions more efficiently.
Thank you for your custom, and on behalf of everyone at Third Light we wish you a Happy Christmas!
