Third Light Ltd The Digital Asset Management Specialists [1]http://www.thirdlight.com/ Third Light Newsletter - August 2010 Dear all, Welcome to the August 2010 newsletter, our bi-monthly update on developments at Third Light and news about changes and improvements made to the IMS product. The intended purpose of this newsletter is to keep existing and prospective Third Light clients informed about new features. Please follow the instructions at the end of this email if you prefer not to receive our newsletters. Features mentioned below are free of charge, and will be released to subscription sites on 10th August 2010, with an Appliance update to follow. Metadata Whitepaper We have released a new whitepaper, providing practical advice on metadata and the latest tagging technologies used in digital asset management. As more organisations adopt digital asset management to save time and cost when handling files, the resourcing needed to populate the metadata has grown significantly. In this whitepaper, we reflect closely on the experiences of clients in this situation, and how to make sense of the metadata tools at your disposal. [2]Click here to download the metadata whitepaper (PDF) Adobe Lightroom Plug-in (new) Third Light has launched a free plug-in for Adobe Lightroom 3.0, providing a way to upload files directly into your Third Light IMS site from Lightroom. This plugin exports files via FTP to IMS, while also taking advantage of the built-in resizing tools in Lightroom to optimise the upload workflow. This plug-in will be available for download from the Tools -> Plugins -> Adobe Lightroom menu in IMS on 10 August. Multi-Lingual Translations In our June newsletter, we announced support for multiple languages in all new IMS themes. This saves time and is significantly easier to maintain where a customised design is offered in multiple languages. To help with the initial translation task for each language, the Configuration -> Manage Languages menu now includes a link to populate the translations using Google Translate. At the end of the translations list, click the 'Automatically translate all with Google translate' link to update the translation text for your selected language. Any further adjustments can then be made manually by clicking on translated text that you wish to refine. Upload Approvals Workflow (Appliances) (new) The Upload Approvals workflow in Third Light IMS is designed to encourage metadata entry at the point of upload. It is now possible for users performing metadata tagging as part of an upload to use batch editing tools. This change is significant when a large number of files are being uploaded. The layout of the approvals page has been updated to support pagination, and a toolbar providing checkbox options has been added, allowing the user to edit multiple files in one step. Other changes have also been introduced to make the form easier to navigate and to prominently highlight missing metadata that must be completed. These changes also apply to administrator users, where similar enhancements have been introduced. This update will be included in the next Appliance update. Minor Changes And Bug Fixes We have made a number of small adjustments to IMS as follows. These changes will be activated on 10 August. * Conversion of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe PhotoShop Files: IMS now supports conversion of PSD and AI files to other graphics formats. This feature allows proprietary formats to be quickly converted to PDF or other formats using the Download Wizard. * Sort by EXIF date: The date and time of capture is embedded in digital camera photos using the built-in clock on the camera. An additional option has been added to the search engine, so that the EXIF date can be used to sort search results by chronological order. * Performance Updates: The performance of bulk-deletion features has been enhanced. This change avoids IMS Appliances from being slowed down by file deletion tasks occurring in the background, and ensures the IMS user interface is always responsive. * CMYK Profiles: Support for CMYK JPEG files has been improved in cases where an incorrect colour profile is provided in the file. IMS now detects this situation and correctly displays these files. * Large File Support: Support for large files (over 2GB) has been implemented. This allows HD Video content and large data archives to be stored in Third Light IMS sites, subject to available quota or disk space. * ZIP Archives: There is no longer a monthly limit on ZIP archive downloads in IMS Subscription sites. Feedback And Referrals We operate a referral scheme to reward any existing IMS customer who directs a new client to us. If you know of a business that would benefit from using IMS, please make an introduction - we'll provide a period of free use on your account if they buy one of our products. Every feature of IMS is based on your ideas and feedback. We keep a thorough record of all feedback and aim to implement the features that are most requested as part of our development plans.
